Is this the worst flop of all time?

"Tough guy" Chris Bosh

Wainwright out for season

This guy was pretty much the rock of the cardinals rotation. Huge blow for St. Louis. Right now there are about 8 guys competing, and it seems that Kyle McClellan is in  the lead to win the 5th starting job, but its still very early.

Melo's sandwich does look tasty

Carmelo Anthony's new sandwich at the famous Carnegie Deli in NYC.

Melo's Knicks Debut

Melo certainly made a great debut at MSG tonight. 27 points and 10 boards, and Chauncey Billups dropped 20. Knicks look good, but their first real test comes Sunday against the heat. Should be a great game.

Brooks breaks Big East scoring record

Providence's Marshon Brooks broke the big east scoring record against Notre Dame tonight with an astounding 52 points. Great individual performance by Brooks, guy was flying around the court all night just hitting whatever shot he wanted. The big east is just so good. Even a team like providence, that isn't exactly a big east power, has the talent to do something like this. Great performance though, if only the friars could've gotten the win. Notre Dame prevailed 94-93. ND coach Mike Brey called it one of the greatest performances he's ever seen. Chicago Tribune

Even Lebron's team mates hate him

Juwan Howard, a respected veteran and role player for the heat, said the Bull's Derrick Rose has his vote for MVP. Thats gotta rub LBJ the wrong way. ESPN

Prokhorov just does not care...

...if you want to play for the Knicks, he will try and get you. First it was Carmelo, now its Deron Williams. Earlier this week, it was leaked from sources close to williams that he wanted to play for the Knicks next year. So naturally, Prokhorov tries to get him. Nice. ESPN New York

ESPN anchor's advertising deals

Pretty ridiculous how a little exposure at espn gets you an endorsement deal. Check out this story from deadspin.

Calhoun Suspended, Will Challenge NCAA findings

UConn Coach Jim Calhoun was suspended for three big east games next year, and will lose scholarships, however no postseason games were taken away. Sounds like Calhoun is confident he has some ground to stand on by challenging these charges. Or it could be his ego and his stubborn new england pride. Either way, this season wont be affected by the NCAA's punishment.

Derozan complains about props in Dunk Contest

The dunk is a very tired act in sports, because its way over exposed, and has pretty much been done every way possible. Sure I appreciate a great dunk, but c'mon, props are what the dunk contest is all about. I think this guys a bit jealous, because he sounds like a fool. ESPN

Newton's Draft Stock Rising

No way around it, Cam Newton is catching the eyes of NFL scouts and his draft stock is rising after a series of impressive workouts. He's an athletic, strong guy, but he's still shaky at best in an NFL system where everyone is just as fast and strong. On the bright side, Newton won't have to lie about getting paid anymore.

Melo to Knicks

Deal done. Knicks get their man. Thank god this is over.

Westmoreland Takes BP, Making quick recovery

Congrats to Ryan Westmoreland. After being completely out of the game for more than a year and successfully having a brain tumor removed, the Red Sox standout prospect is back on the field. Westmoreland took some swings today at the Red Sox spring training complex in Ft. Myers, Florida. Both doctors and red sox personnel are astounded by his recovery time and progress. Myself, along with a lot of other red sox, and baseball fans, want to see him succeed. NESN

And So It Begins

I thought it would be mid season before the yankees front office started taking shots at their embattled captain, but leave it to Hank Steinbrenner to prove me wrong. Hank said the yanks have been "spending too much time building mansions," in what was clearly a reference to Derek Jeter's offseason mansion built in Florida. The tension is still there from the Cashman comments, and is already increasing although there hasn't been one spring training game played. If Jeter slumps, it will get ugly fast. ESPN

West Beats East, Kobe MVP

Not too bad of an all-star game. No defense, but actually pretty entertaining. Kobe won his 4th all-star MVP, tying him for most all time. Lebron James became only the second player to record an all-star triple-double and Kevin Durant added 34 points for the West. At games end, Carmelo Anthony was still a Denver Nugget.

The Dunk Contest is Back

Thank you Blake Griffin. Yeah, the Nate Robinson - Dwight Howard years weren't bad, but gospel singers? Baron Davis popping out of Cars? Blake jumping over cars? Griffin just flat out dunks the ball better than everyone else. What had pretty much become a run of the mill exhibition (see HR Derby) is entertaining again.

Wittels 0-4, Streak ends

The 2nd longest hitting streak came to an end friday when FIU's Garret Wittels went 0-4 against Southeastern Louisiana. Wittels was involved in rape allegations this off-season. Karma anyone? And no, your worst moment was probably raping that girl.

Two guys get locked in Camden Yards, Live the Dream

This is pretty much baseball heaven. Two orioles fans decided to sit in the stands during a rain delay/rainout until they got ushered out. Except the ushers never came, and these two guys were locked in the park alone. They walked on the field, climbed the foul poul, and raided the beer stand. Pretty much my dream. Deadspin Story

Jeter reports to Spring Training, Focused on Baseball

The Yankees captain is back with a new focus, on playing good baseball and reaching 3,000 hits. There is a lot that was said during the offseason by both Jeter and the Yankees, and its hard to believe that Jeter isn't still mad at some of the comments that were made. The facts are that Jeter is a great player, 1st balloter for sure, and is getting old. His years are numbered, as we saw last season with both his decline in range and batting average, and legacy will only get him so far, even with the franchise he won so many rings for. I don't think he will be batting lead off the entire year, especially with the possibility of the run production that could result from the speed of Brett Gardner. If Jeter declines drastically, there could very well be even more dissention between the organization and its favorite son.

Knicks Draw Line on Melo Talks

The Knicks are still in the hunt for Anthony, but only for a certain price. After several reports surfaced that Melo and the Nets had reached a tentative agreement, the Knicks relayed the fact that they had already met with Melo earlier, and no agreements with the star and any team had been reached. Melo looks kind of angry in this video, and I think if the deal doesn't get done (which I don't think will happen) we could see a breakdown or outburst of some sort. This drama has dragged on for long enough. He is a good move for both teams, but I have a feeling he goes to the Nets.

P. S. Lebron - Shut up! No one cares what you have to say. This isn't The Decision: Part II

Melo, Nets reach tentative agreement

There has been a tentative deal worked out, that would send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Ben Uzoh, and Troy Murphy to the Nuggets for Melo, Billups, Sheldon Williams, and two others. There are still details to be worked out, and Anthony is planning on Meeting with Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov, Part owner Jay-Z, and the Nets GM. SB Nation

Nets will meet with Melo over weekend

The nets have said they are done with any Carmelo Anthony negotiations. However, they are now saying that there will be a meeting over all-star weekend. The nets will try to woo Melo to sign the three year extension by convincing him they will build around him in the upcoming year. I think the deal gets done this weekend, or early next week.

Bob Sanders Cut by Colts

He established himself as one of the hardest hitters in the game, yet he just couldn't stay healthy. Sanders could have been one of the great safeties to play the game, but he simply couldn't stay healthy, and the colts really couldn't keep paying him for half seasons, and waiting for him to finally make a full time impact. He was a strong team leader, but could never really get to the status that players like Ed Reed or Charles Woodson attained. There's a good chance someone will take a chance on him, maybe for one or two years.

Top play heading into the weekend

Nice move and pass off the backboard.

NFL, Player's association to enter mediation

As the NFLPA and the NFL prepare to enter into seven straight days of CBA talks, both sides will now have a little more help towards reaching their goal of a new CBA. A federal mediator will step in to oversee the bargaining between the players and the owners. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the talks only last two or three days. There is a lot of bad blood on both sides, and no one wants to make a concession. The players have been angered by what they deem to be the owner's greediness, and have only been further frustrated by developments like the proposed 18 game schedule. At this point, emotion is very much involved in these talks, as both sides try to find a balance between wanting to play football in 2011-12 and holding their ground when negotiating. It is truly not looking good for the March 3rd deadline.

Wittels Cleared to Play

Florida International shortstop Garret Wittels was cleared to play earlier this week, although there is still an unresolved rape charge associated with him, two other men, and a 17 year old girl, regarding an incident in the Bahama Islands on Dec. 20th, 2010. Although the Bahama Islands system of filing charges is slightly different then ours, in that less probable cause is required, I still think its inappropriate for him to play until the charge is resolved. The situation seems all too similar to countless others involving stars, alcohol, and young women (See Roethlisberger, Kobe). Yet, Wittels will suit up for the season opener on National TV (ESPN 3) this Friday against Southeastern Louisiana. Wittels was named the preseason Sun Belt Conference player of the year, and his hitting streak has created a lot of draft buzz. Many disagree with FIU's decision to play him, and I definitely agree. With Wittels 2 games from tying Robin Ventura's 58 game hit streak, FIU is clearly trying to publicize both the school and profit off the media coverage. The guy seems like a scumbag, and while he says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, it's very hard to believe that story. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go 0-4 on Friday.

Nets making late push for Melo

It looked as though the Knicks were sure favorites to land Anthony, with the lakers doing little more than upping what New York would have to give Denver. However, the nets have re-entered into talks with the nuggets, certainly making things interesting for the Feb. 24th deadline. Melo originally said he wanted only to go to NY, LAL, or Chicago, however that didn't stop the new owner of the nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, from making a bold statement by pursuing him. However, when Anthony failed to immediately meet with the nets during talks, Prokhorov was offended, his ego probably a bit shaken, and abruptly took the deal off the table. Anthony claims that all the trade drama is not affecting him, but the underlying tone of his contact with the media lately suggests he is anxious for the situation to be resolved, especially because Denver fans and possibly even some Denver teammates have become frustrated with the huge distraction. At the very least, the nets throwing their hat in the ring will continue to drive up the price the Knicks will have to pay.

Pujols Arrives at Camp

Miguel Cabrera in trouble with the Law

Two years ago their was the drunken domestic dispute. Most everybody probably thought that was behind Cabrera after his great season last year. However, the tigers slugger has been charged with DUI after being stopped on a florida highway near the Tigers Spring Training complex. Apparently Cabrera slurred his speech, wandered into the road, and even took a swig of scotch while talking to one of the officers. He also verbally resisted arrest. This guy needs help. ESPN Story

Top 25 Marquee Matchups: Weekend Preview

With the NBA All - Star Break this weekend, College basketball takes center Stage. Here is a preview of this weekend's games.

12UConn vs. 16Louisville

The Huskies invade Louisville coming off a huge home victory over 9th ranked Georgetown. Kemba Walker had a monster game, tallying 31 in the victory. UConn will be put to the test once again in a tough Big East environment against a Louisville team that beat the Huskies in a double OT thriller on January 29th. Look for Walker to continue to his strong offensive play, and for UConn to come away with a win in a very close game. UConn 82, Louisville 79

Colorado vs. 1Kansas

Losing after being the #1 team in the nation does not inspire confidence, and the fact is that no top ten team is above and beyond the rest of the competition. Kansas State definitely exposed some flaws in the Jayhawks game in the meeting of the two in state rivals. Kansas struggled to defend the three pointer, especially from star Jacob Pullen, who continued to get off quality shots through the fourth quarter. The Jayhawks also struggled at the line. Coming off a bad loss, Kansas bounces back handily at home.
Kansas 87, Colorado 69

2Texas vs. Nebraska

Texas looks very good, and should play like the future #1 team, beating Nebraska easily on the road.
Texas 82, Nebraska 62

4Pitt vs. St. John's

This could be the best matchup of the weekend. St. John's is one of the best stories of the year, with great wins against Duke and UConn, and a serious sleeper pick for the tourney. They play well at home, but Pitt will control the boards, and end their two game skid. Pitt 77, St John's 70

Lebron says he's "happy" for the Cavaliers

Yeah, right. Coming from the same guy who poured salt in their wounds a few weeks ago with the "karma is a bitch" tweet. No one outside of Miami and ESPN likes this guy, and he pretty much lost all credibility after the decision. There's nothing wrong with taking the money, absolutely understandable and fine. But the Cav's aren't going to win for a very long time, and the people of Ohio resent, rightly or not, "the chosen one" for this. If I was in Ohio, the last thing I would want to hear is Lebron talking about the Cav's. Honestly, he's done enough to Cleveland.

Marquee Matchups Tonight

10Wisconsin vs. 11Purdue

Wisconsin is the now a hot final four pick after taking down OSU. However, Purdue hasn't lost at home, and we should expect to see more than 59 points this time around against the badgers. Look for Jajuan Johnson to have a big game. Purdue 75, Wisconsin 69

9Georgtown vs. 12UConn

This game will come down to which star plays better, Kemba Walker or Austin Freeman. UConn has lost 4 in a row agianst the Hoyas, and is looking for revenge when they meet in storrs tonight. Georgetown's defense has been playing great the last few games, and it will definitely be up to the Big East POY candidate Walker to create and maintain offense for the Huskies. UConn 78, Georgetown 72

Pujols, Cards Stop Talks

How can you not lock this guy up? Seriously, he has pretty much built up an otherwise weak cardinals franchise, and has kept them in contention for the last few years. Arguably the best player in the game, and will probably end up being one of the best ever. Not to mention that he is a huge draw for fans. Not a good move by St. Louis at all.  ESPN Story

New SI Cover Girl Irina Shayk

How scary is The Phillies Rotation?

3 Cy young winners? Check. World Series MVP? Check. Joe Blanton as your number 5? Check.  Philadelphia has arguably one of the best rotations in history, and is definitely the favorite to go all the way.  Hard to imagine the phillies not winning at least 100 games, maybe more. Probably the most anticipated matchup in the upcoming season will take place June 28th-30th, when the Red Sox travel to Citizens Bank Ballpark to take on the Phils. Sounds like a world series preview to me.

BC wins Beanpot, Headed to another Championship?

BC won its second consecutive Beanpot championship monday night with a thrilling OT victory over the Northeastern Huskies. Despite poor defense and a slew of bad penalties, the Eagles were able to come back with their speed and talent. Chris Kreider carried the team with 2 goals and an assist, and Jimmy Hayes scored off a rebound to win the game. Goaltender John Muse seemed to struggle, and looked a bit shaky on a long, blocker side goal that sailed past him untouched in the second period. Muse did make several strong saves in the third period, and was solid in overtime. Each of the last three winners of the Beanpot (BC, BU, BC) have gone on to win the NCAA championship, which is a good sign for the #1 ranked Eagles. Northeastern will have another shot to knock off BC as they face off Friday night at Conte Forum.
